As we crossed the border into southern California the dune buggies, 4-wheelers and dirt bikes were out in full force. Over the course of several miles in the Sand Hills of southeastern California we saw several hundred riding up and down the dunes. There were groups of campers at various places along Interstate-8 and they all had dune buggies and 4-wheel vehicles parked next to their campers.
