Howdy-If you are stopping overnight at Junction TX, I surmise your route to Carlsbad will be I-10 to Ft Stockton & then N on US 285 thru Pecos to Carlsbad. In west TX, 17 miles north of Pecos you can make a 6 mile detour E on state Hwy 302 to Mentone, county seat of the least populated county (Loving Co) in the lower 48 states. Has a typical brick courthouse and one small roadside cafe-or at least it used to have that cafe. Tough area to make a living-ranching and oil. When I worked on a oil drilling rig as a college summer job in the Loving oil field N of Mentone, we always stopped at that cafe on the way to the rig. Miles of nothing in that part of TX.

If you get to talk to Bob Barker, tell him that the Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, VA appreciates the donations from his Foundation that helped us spay and neuter animals prior to their adoption.
We really enjoyed the zoo in San Diego; it's a BIG one. The tour through Hoover Dam is a "don't miss" event. Your mouths are going to hang open at the beauty of Sedona, AZ. Hot Springs, AR has a really interesting tour through some of the old bath houses. It's just a bit south of Little Rock. ENJOY!!!!

While in Junction, eat at Cooper's BarBQ, La Familia (mexican food), or Sunshine Cafe (american comfort food; really good deserts).
